The Ring & The Rose ride is designed exclusively for experienced riders who are confident riding at all paces across varied natural terrain and are looking for a true horseback adventure.
More than just a horse trek, this is an opportunity to ride through one of New Zealand's most iconic landscapes, where exhilarating trails, dramatic mountain scenery and legendary film locations come together to create an unforgettable adventure for capable riders, and Lord of the Rings enthusiasts!
Your journey begins on the botanically curated trails of Priory Rose Estate, before venturing onto the vast braided channels of the magnificent Dart River. Towering snow-capped mountain peaks rise in every direction as your horse carries you deeper into one of New Zealand's most spectacular alpine landscapes.
The adventure continues through giant green natural forming mounds called hillocks, resembling a similar presence to that of Tolkien's iconic Shire. As you wonder through keep an eye out for any straying hobbits, before emerging onto wide open grass trails with elevated views stretching across the sparkling Dart River. Surrounded by the Humboldt and Richardson mountain ranges, you'll ride towards one of Glenorchy's most recognisable filming locations 'Isengard' with an incredible vantage point overlooking the spectacular landscape made famous from Lord of the Rings.
But the adventure doesn't end there...
Follow a magical tree-lined trail before crossing a crystal-clear glacial fed stream into the untouched beauty of Dart Beach. Here, the landscape opens into vast river plains with Mount Chaos and the Cosmos mountain peaks offering a private north facing view of Paradise Valley and Mt Aspiring national park, another iconic location featured on the big screen (LOTR, Hobbit, Narnia, Xmen Origins, 'Taylor Swift - Out of the Woods music video') etc.

We provide helmets. Helmets are worn at all times when riding a horse.

Check-in: Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled ride departure. Group treks depart promptly at the scheduled time, and unfortunately, late arrivals cannot be accommodated or refunded.

Your privacy is important to us, if you are uncomfortable with your images being used, please let us know and we will gladly respect your preference.

Maximum weight: 85 kg. The wellbeing of our horses is always our priority. At check-in, guests may be weighed and will then be matched with the horse best suited to their weight and riding ability. For the safety and welfare of our horses, riders over the 85 kg limit cannot participate in the ride. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be provided in these circumstances.
