Misty Mountain Trail | 2 Hours | Intermediate | Walk (trot/canter possible, not guaranteed)

Step beyond the estate and into the extraordinary on our  Misty Mountain Trail. This is a breathtaking 90-minute horse trekking adventure inspired by the legendary landscapes that have captivated filmmakers and travellers from around the world. 

​

Designed for  intermediate riders and above, this experience begins amongst the peaceful surroundings of  Priory Rose Estate, where you'll have the opportunity to get acquainted with your horse while riding our beautiful estate trails. As your confidence grows in the saddle, soak in panoramic views of Glenorchy's snow-capped peaks and watch our herd grazing peacefully throughout the property. You’ll get a true glimpse into life on our boutique equestrian estate. 

 

Once horse and rider are working in harmony, the adventure continues beyond the estate and onto the spectacular Dart River. Here, braided riverbeds stretch beneath towering mountain ranges, where wisps of low-hanging cloud often drift across the peaks, creating an atmosphere that feels both wild and timeless. You will see why Glenorchy has become one of New Zealand's most iconic filming locations, with landscapes so dramatic they transport you into a world that feels almost mythical. 

 

At Priory Rose Estate, we believe in quality over quantity. Our small group treks of four riders (+ guide) provide a more personal experience, allowing our knowledgeable guides to tailor the ride to the group's ability while ensuring the highest standards of safety, horse welfare and guest experience.

Named after the mist-shrouded mountains that define this remarkable landscape, the Misty Mountain Trail captures the magic of Glenorchy in every direction. Whether the peaks are wrapped in rolling cloud or standing proudly beneath crystal-clear blue skies, every ride offers a unique perspective of one of New Zealand's most awe-inspiring alpine environments.

This is more than a horse trek, it's an opportunity to immerse yourself in the landscapes that have inspired adventure stories for generations, all from the saddle of one of our well trained companions.

* Pace is typically walking paced, however there may be opportunities to trot and canter if all riders on the trek have the ability, and your guide deems it safe to do so. Trotting and cantering are not guaranteed on this trek.

What to Bring:


Please dress to the weather conditions and temperature. 

  • Long comfortable pants, suitable closed footwear (no large heels, crocs or sandals permitted).

  • A phone or small camera is recommended to capture your memories (your responsibility). 

 

More Information:

  • We provide helmets. Helmets are worn at all times when riding a horse. 

  • Check-in: Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled ride departure. Group treks depart promptly at the scheduled time, and unfortunately, late arrivals cannot be accommodated or refunded.

  • Image use for marketing purposes: we may capture and use photos or videos taken during your session for marketing, promotional materials, and social media. Your privacy is important to us, if you are uncomfortable with your images being used, please let us know and we will gladly respect your preference.

Cancellations policy: 

  • Cancellations online rescheduling up to 72 hours prior • 48hrs - 7days cancellation prior to booking date 50% refund • NO refund 48hrs before booking.

 

Restrictions:

  • Min age 12 years old. 

  • Maximum weight: 90 kg. The wellbeing of our horses is always our priority. At check-in, guests may be weighed and will then be matched with the horse best suited to their weight and riding ability. For the safety and welfare of our horses, riders over the 90 kg limit cannot participate in the ride. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be provided in these circumstances.
